What is Konjac?

Have you tried the wonderfully soft sponge that comes with our Body Washes?

These clever sponges are made from Konjac and help to give our Petit Pai and Gentle Genius Body Washes a silky lather – without the need for foaming agents like sulphates.

Konjac…what’s that?

(Pronounced ‘con-jack’), Konjac is a large plant that’s native to southeast Asia.

Also known as the konjac potato, it’s grown for it’s starchy properties which see it used in everything from noodles to a vegan substitute to gelatin.

This humble plant has been used for centuries as a beauty sponge. Its naturally soft fibres made it a favourite for washing babies.

As it’s 97% water and naturally alkaline, it’s able to gently cleanse the skin without disturbing the skin’s pH balance.

The fibres help to lather up even sulphate-free washes as they pass through the tiny holes, without feeling scratchy on sensitive skin.

As our sponges are made entirely from Konjac, they’re also 100% natural and totally biodegradable – so they’re kind to the environment too!
