Treating psoriasis with cognitive behavioural therapy

I read an interesting article in the Telegraph a week or so ago which echoed my sentiments on the effects of stress on the skin.

Researchers at Manchester University have found that cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) can help alleviate the symptoms of psoriasis (which supermodel Cara Delevigne suffers from) and other stress induced skin conditions.

Dr. Bundy who ran the study said, “CBT helps people manage their stress levels and this reduces immune activity, having a direct effect on the skin.

CBT also helps people feel more in control of their condition, so they are more likely to ask for help early and make healthy lifestyle choices in terms of diet and exercise.”

Dr. Bundy went on to say that she thought CBT should be provided as part of the dermatological care for those who suffer with psoriasis or other autoimmune conditions.

Would you be willing to try CBT to help manage your skin condition? Would love your thoughts!
