SOS Skin Rescue

We’ve all been there – you’ve got a special event just around the corner, and you wake up with an unsightly breakout or even a blotchy skin reaction.

At times like these you need a skin quick fix, so follow my skin SOS Rules to get your skin back to its best in no time!

Rule 1: Don’t panic!

This may be easier said than done, but the stress hormone cortisol increases sebum production and also inflames the skin – so will only worsen a reaction or breakout.

Rule 2: Take your routine back to basics

Resist the temptation to throw everything but the kitchen sink at your skin in the hope that something will work!

Chopping and changing your products or overloading your skin will only aggravate it further.

Instead, strip your routine back to basics and allow your skin to rebalance and recover – finding skin balance is the key to happy skin.

Using a gentle cream cleanser, like our Camellia & Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser, and irritant-free moisturiser will suffice.

Rule 3: Eat green and clean

Skin problems are often a reflection of what’s happening in your gut, so when your skin is playing up try to eat as ‘green and clean’ as possible.

Fill your diet with leafy green and brightly coloured vegetables – the alkaline boost has an anti-inflammatory effect on the system, helping to calm reactions and breakouts.

Rule 4: Embrace Oils

Although it may seem counterintuitive to apply oils to a breakout, the right one will actually help your skin rebalance its oil production.

The concentrated levels of Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) in oils such as our Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil will also help your skin to heal much quicker.

Rule 5: Stay cool

Breakouts and reactions are both inflammatory conditions which are associated with, and potentially worsened by heat, so try and avoid sun beds, steam rooms, saunas and hot baths.

For maximum soothing, you can try keeping some of your products in the fridge.

So there you have it – five rules to follow when you need a skin quick fix! I’d love to hear if you have any emergency skin routines you always fall back on?
