Our customer experience team get asked every single day how best to care for blemish-prone skin, at every single age. Luckily, finding a calming, rebalancing routine is easier than you might think.
For the most part, breakouts occur in oily or dry skin types. In oily skin, the breakouts occur because the skin is overproducing oils, which can get trapped along with dead skin cells and bacteria within hair follicles and clog pores. The opposite occurs in dry skin where it underproduces oils, leaving the skin vulnerable without its protective barrier (or acid mantle).
When it comes to calming all types of sensitive skin, we recommend stripping your routine right back to basics, starting with just a nourishing daily cleanse. Then when your skin feels ready for those gentle next steps, try our trusted routine below for blemish-prone, combination and oily skin.
Morning skin routine:
For oily or combination skin, we recommend beginning with a spritz of Rice Plant & Rosemary BioAffinity Tonic. The natural antioxidants in Rosemary Water help to purify and rebalance congested skin and oily T-zones. Leaving skin damp after applying a Tonic also helps the next products in your routine absorb easily into the skin.
For dry skin, swap out the Rice Plant & Rosemary Tonic for our Lotus & Orange Blossom one instead.
Follow by hydrating skin with Geranium & Thistle Rebalancing Day Cream. Thistle Oil helps to mattify skin and reduce the appearance of large pores.
Evening skin routine:
First remove makeup and SPF using the Light Work Rosehip Cleansing Oil. Even oily skin types shouldn’t shy away from this step. Oils cling to oils – so using a cleaning oil will help to lift every last trace of stubborn makeup and waterproof makeup off the skin without stripping it or causing irritation.
Pat face dry first, then double cleanse thoroughly using Camellia & Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser. It’s important to massage it into dry skin because the nourishing oils inside would slide off wet skin rather than gripping to and removing any dirt or residue on top.
Two to three consecutive nights per week, apply Copaiba & Zinc Perfect Balance Blemish Serum. It gently alleviates redness, inflammation and bacteria without drying the spot or causing irritation.
On the nights you’re not using a serum, massage Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil into skin before bed. The regenerative sterols soothe inflammation surrounding the blemish and encourage healing. Suitable for all skin types, a facial oil is an important skincare step to maintain when skin is clear of breakouts too.
Once or twice weekly:
Treat skin to our Copaiba Deep Cleanse AHA Mask – the gentle fruit acids inside exfoliate and clear congestion by dissolving dead skin cells and drawing out impurities.
Add exfoliation into your evening cleanse routine – applying Kukui & Jojoba Bead Skin Brightening Exfoliator to dry skin after cleansing. Then continue with your Tonic plus Serum or Facial Oil afterwards.
