Skin science or skin fiction: Cucumber on the eyes.

The great beauty cosmos is filled with so many star hints and tips that it is often hard to separate fact from fiction.

Cucumber on the eyes is a classic – but does this humble vegetable really have any beauty benefits? Well, the answer is yes, particularly for sensitive or irritated skin.

The silica in cucumber is an essential component in the body’s connective tissue which helps maintain healthy skin, muscles and bones.

Though there is no evidence that this silica can be absorbed topically, cucumber’s other nutrients can. As it is contains over 80% water, cucumber is great for hydrating the skin, and can refresh a tired or dry eye area.

Cucumber is also rich in ascorbic acid and caffeic acid, both of which help prevent water retention. These acids can reduce any puffiness around the eye, and remember – the cooler the cucumber, the more effective.

These anti-inflammatory properties also make it great for calming aggravated skin.

When your eyes are in need of a little more than a pick-me-up, try our Echium & Argan Gentle Eye Cream. Free from alcohol and irritating chemicals, this eye cream is ideal for the delicate eye area.
