How to prevent ageing on your neck

The neck – that poor neglected area that doesn’t quite fall into either our face or body care regimes.

I was taking to a customer last week who desperately wanted to know how she could improve the skin on her neck, which gave her age away as she hadn’t looked after it as well as the amazingly smooth and healthy skin on her face.

It’s a story I hear a lot, so I thought I’d dedicate a post to my top neck care tips!

Why does my neck look older than my face?

Firstly, the skin on the neck is thinner than on many other areas of the body.

It also has less fatty tissue and fewer sebaceous glands than the face, meaning that the skin is less supple and more prone to dryness or slight sagging as we age.

What can I do to improve it?

As with most things, prevention is better than cure – and in this case, prevention is as simple as extending your skincare regime a few inches south of your face!

Effectively cleansing, moisturising and conditioning the neck will help to keep the skin in optimum health.

If, like lots of us, you haven’t paid your neck much attention early on in life then don’t worry – there’s still lots you can do to improve the skin’s elasticity and tone.

As well as daily cleansing and moisturising, some very gentle exfoliation will help improve skin appearance and boost circulation.

Incorporating some simple massage techniques can also help tone the muscles under the skin to better support it. There are some really simple steps to follow here.

I prefer to do this with a good Facial Oil like our Echium & Amaranth Age Confidence Oil, and stick to upward strokes to encourage skin up in the right direction!
