For ex-acne sufferers, scars can be a persistent reminder of those pesky past blemishes.
While acne scars can dent your skin confidence, the good news is there’s lots you can do to reduce their appearance.
What do acne scars look like?
Acne scars develop in areas where deep or cystic blemishes have been.
Those with darker skin tones may notice hyperpigmentation (darkening) within the scars, whilst those with lighter skin tones are more prone to redness (erythema).
What can I do?
Firstly – don’t panic! Acne scars will fade naturally over time, and the following tips and tricks will help speed up the process:
- Exfoliation. Gentle exfoliation is essential for replacing damaged cells with healthy fresh ones.
You can gently brush the area with a muslin cloth or use a very gentle polish such as our Kukui & Jojoba Bead Skin Brightening Exfoliator.
- Conditioning. The real star of the show when it comes to scarring is our Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil.
‘Rosehip oil improves the appearance of scars thanks to its high concentration of Omegas and Carotenoids. Omegas fuel the skin’s regeneration process, during which damaged cells are replaced with healthy new ones, while Carotenoids are powerful antioxidants that are proven to help repair skin damage. Try applying 2-3 drops to slightly damp skin 3-4 times a week.
- Supplement your skin care. Upping your intake of Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) will help nourish and heal your skin from the inside out.
Vitamin A-abundant foods such as sweet potato, broccoli, carrot, and apricots are also beneficial for healthy skin and have an antioxidant effect on the body.
Do be patient though! Scars can take time to heal but the right products and a good diet will see them fading in no time, and will keep the rest of your skin looking beautifully healthy too.
