Brave new world: Is this a vanity step too far?

Stem cell technology has long been a controversial but fascinating issue. Yesterday, I read an interesting article in the Telegraph about new advances in the field and how they might influence the beauty treatments of the future.

Apparently, thanks to French genomic company Cellectis, ‘eternal youth’ could be yours for just £40,000.

They’ve just announced a new development in technology that takes human skin cell and converts them into a special tissue called Induced Pluripotent Stem (IPS) cells.

The idea is that these ‘magically’ regenerative cells and frozen, and harvested at a later date to replace timeworn and damaged cells, essentially reversing the ageing process.

While the possibilities that these kind of advances open up may be intriguing, part of me can’t help but think they’re taking things a little too far.

Would love to hear your take on – would you embrace anything to stay young and healthy, or is this a step too far in the pursuit of eternal youth?
