Blue Monday: How to beat January depression

According to the press and leading psychologists, the third Monday in January is the most depressing day of the year.

A miserable combination of early mornings, cold weather, back to work blues & tight New Year budgets can all get a bit too much, and we sit at our desks wishing we were somewhere, anywhere else.

If that sounds like you, then turn that frown upside down, and follow our top tips for beating Blue Monday!

1. Book a Holiday

Get yourself out of hibernation mode and book yourself some fun in the sun – not only will it give you something to look forward to, it will also help you kickstart that health kick you’ve been putting off!

2. Get a Facial

After all that time spent with the family over Christmas, January’s the ideal month to invest in some me-time. A Facial allows you to rest, relax and escape the worries of everyday life, and will brighten and revitalise your complexion. Book your Pai Facial today.

3. Eat yourself happy

And no we don’t mean comfort eating! There are a number of foods that have been scientifically proven to improve your mood. Beans such as kidney, soya and borlotti for example help regulate the mood enhancer serotonin, while chocolate is thought to encourage the release of serotonin and dopamine, another happy hormone.

4. Exercise

As boring as it sounds, exercise is proven to increase our energy levels and improve our mood. Meditative exercises such as yoga or pilates can also help relieve stress, which in turn has positive effects on the skin.

5. Look on the bright side

While it may not be “warm” here in the UK, it’s certainly sunny, and getting lighter for longer everyday. Spring is on the way, so start smiling!
