What is Hyaluronic Acid?

And why we’re besotted with it

We’ve recently given our Age Confidence Cream formula a bit of a boost. One of the new ingredients is Hyaluronic acid, which we’ve added to the product to supercharge its hydrating properties.

But what exactly is Hyaluronic Acid you may be wondering?

Here we bring you the lowdown on this amazing skin booster.

A natural moisturiser

Firstly, Hyaluronic acid isn’t really an acid. It’s actually a glycosaminoglycan, which is a polysaccharide, which is basically a very large sugar that naturally occurs in our skin and joints.

Known for being hydrophilic, it will draw and hold onto water, and so it plays a huge role in retaining moisture.

As we age, our natural resource of hyaluronic acid starts to deplete and skin can lose its natural glow.

A prized ingredient

Incredibly, just one molecule of Hyaluronic Acid can hold up to 1000 times its own weight in water, which keeps skin plump and smooth.

Hyaluronic acid comes in a low or high molecular weight. We use a low weight, as its smaller and can penetrate the skin more effectively, yet still holds and binds to the same amount of water.

We know that keeping your skin hydrated when it’s misbehaving is tricky. Hyaluronic acid not only gives skin that much-needed hydration hit, but because it’s a natural ingredient it does it in a calming and non-irritating way.

So it’s easy to see why Hyaluronic acid has become such a highly prized ingredient in the skincare industry.

Boosting our Age Confidence Cream

Adding this superhero to our new Age Confidence Cream formula was a no-brainer.

If your skin is mature and sensitive, it will help quench moisture levels and lock them in for longer-lasting hydration. And you’ll find the cream deeply nourishing and soothing in equal measure.

We’d love to hear what you think.
